The purpose of the Fremantle and Perth Discovery Book Club project is to establish a sustainable community partnership and resource model to support the development of positive reading relationships and literacy skills of children coming into care.
The Discovery Book Club project comprises of four main components based on core education services practices to support these children:
- Book and literacy parcels that are mailed out children every six months from the first two years since coming into care.
- Student Teacher volunteers who provide reading mentoring with a child in care during the school term.
Reader Mentor Program - Student Information Booklet.
- Foster Care support sessions providing current research and information to foster carers on ways to support literacy development for children in care.
- Education Service intake and referral model.
And most importantly: it’s all about empowering children in care!
The Discovery Book Club is extremely grateful to our partners for the incredible support provided to enable the project to flourish. Each parcel of books a child receives is the result of a collaborative process of community partnership, resource development, creative thinking, and team work!
